Situated on the Camel Estuary directly opposite Padstow, Rock is a popular resort with families and well-heeled singles including Princes William and Harry. The Black Tor Ferry links the two towns with a water taxi service after dark. Despite its name, Rock is actually a long stretch of golden sand with excellent opportunities for watersports, fishing and birdwatching. The Rock Sailing and Water Ski Club offers sailing and regattas, and boats can be hired nearby for water skiing, canoeing, rowing and windsurfing. The RNLI has a lifeboat stationed on Ferry Beach and St Enodoc Golf Club offers the chance to play a round or two on the clifftop above.
Polzeath is just a couple of miles north of Rock and has one of Cornwall's cleanest beaches. Lined with rock pool for poking around with a net, and offering perfect conditions for sandcastle-building, it is a popular resort for families. It is also a haven for both novice and accomplished surfers when the surf is up. The village has enough shops and services to be self-sufficient, and after dark there are a number of bars, restaurants and pubs for dining and socializing.
Wadebridge is just a short drive up the road and provides cycle hire and access to the Camel Trail. Families will enjoy a visit to nearby Carruan Farm and walkers can indulge their love of hiking along the South West Coast Path.
