Just north of Redruth is the delightful harbour of Portreath, once a busy port in Cornwall's mining era. A six-mile walk northwards along the South West Coast Path will bring you to St Agnes, another charming village which has traded mining for tourism. It has plenty of craft shops, art galleries and restaurants, making it a great choice for staying in a Cornish holiday cottage. The row of sea captains' cottages down Stippy-Stappy and the free museum capture the area's fascinating past. Walkers can enjoy the coastal paths linking cliffs and coves and sharp-eyed nature-lovers may spot pods of dolphins, seals and seabirds. You can even climb St Agnes Beacon and count 32 church spires in neighbouring village communities!
