Sidmouth is a Regency town which was hugely popular in the late 18th century but barely developed in Victorian times as Torquay became a more popular resort. This allowed the town to remain rather exclusive and upmarket and holiday apartments in Sidmouth remain a popular choice for families and retirees. The town is a frequent winner of Britain in Bloom with its beautiful parks. It prides itself on its cultural entertainment with an art centre, theatre, cinema and a Folk Week in August.
