South Hams, an officially recognised Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stretches from Plymouth to Torbay and inland to the Dartmoor National Park. It includes the Coastal Path, Burgh Island and several National Nature Reserves and Special Areas of Conservation. Easy to reach from the A38, the South Hams offers peaceful countryside with an abundance of wildlife and several historic towns such as Totnes, Kingsbridge and Salcombe. Where better to enjoy time out than in a pretty country cottage in this lovely area?
Salcombe is one of the highlights of the South Hams, famous for its sailing and yachting contingent who gather for the August Regatta. Ferries from Salcombe carry day trippers to sandy beaches at East Portlemouth, North and South Sands and Mill Bay. Local shops, cafes and waterfront pubs provide excellent amenities along with the National Trust properties at Overbeck's, Coleton Fishacre and Agatha Christie's home at Greenway.
Enjoy boat trips up the river, visit the Lifeboat Station or go wreck diving on the 17th century Cannon Wreck which sank with 400 gold coins onboard. Finish the day at the Salcombe Dairy enjoying creamy Devon ice cream topped with local clotted cream.
