St Ives has a unique charm with its narrow winding streets lined with white-washed fishermen's cottages and small shops. Tucked away on the north coast of Cornwall this picturesque fishing village became a haven for European artists due to its scenic location and exceptional light. Porthmeor beach is now overlooked by the modern building of the Tate St Ives with its excellent collection of modern art. Small art galleries, craft shops, smugglers' pubs and many cafés and restaurants make this a delightful place to stay.
Traffic is kept well outside this characterful village, making it very easy to get around on foot. Enjoy lunch at the rooftop restaurant of the Tate St Ives before exploring the picturesque harbour, RNLI Lifeboat Station and the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Gardens. St Ives has a beach to suit every visitor from the sheltered Carbis Bay to the rolling surf at Porthmeor. Porthminster Beach, overlooked by the tiny branch line railway station, is perfect for families to play games, swim and make sandcastles.
Nearby attractions to enjoy from a holiday cottage in St Ives include Paradise Park with its colourful parrots, St Michaels Mount, Land's End and the open-air Minack Theatre at Porthcurno. For the ultimate thrill, take a helicopter trip to the Scilly Isles from Penzance.
