From ghosts to giants, February events for Cornwall

Cornwall in February is quiet and many people prefer coming down during the winter months as at this time of year the county holds a different kind of beauty
If you have never visited Cornwall during the month of February you really do not know what you have been missing. So many people leave visiting until the summer but a few months earlier will find temperatures a few degrees higher than the rest of the UK and still lots of things to do and see.

So, let’s take a further look at what Cornwall has in store in February and as you will see there is certainly something for everyone.

Pendennis Castle Family Sleepover

The date for the has been set for February 15th and what a treat this is for the whole family to look forward to. At first sight it seems a little bit expensive but when you take into account exactly what is included it all offers tremendous value for money. Just think how great it will be for the children to boast that they have spent the night in a castle and a haunted one at that.

St Ives Feast, Hurling the Silver Ball

is yet another Cornish tradition, the likes of which you are probably more used to seeing during the summer months. Even though it is very much a local’s event, outsiders are more than welcome and Monday February 4th is the date to mark in your diary.

Cornish Language Weekend

Did you know that the proud Cornish people have their own language. Well you do now and if you would like to make a start on learning the language as well as finding about the rich Cornish history then this could be just what you are looking for. There is the added benefit of it being held in the beautiful town of St Ives so there will be lots to do when the days learning is over. The dates to remember are the weekend of the 1st to the 3rd of February.

Pendennis Ghost Hunting

Pendennis castle is also the venue for this event but it would have to be said that it is a little more sinister than the family sleep over which is also held there. This is a real which is led by paranormal investigators so the best advice would have to be, be prepared to expect the unexpected. February 16th is the date of the event for those who are interested.

Danescombe Valley Sleeping Giants

The event is being held on Saturday 24th February and it is the kind of thing that all nature lovers will greatly look forward to. Organised by the Cornwall Wildlife Trust you will be shown how to identify the different trees in the glorious Danescombe Valley.

Tintagel Castle Tour

This particular which is held on February 18th is for English Heritage members only but there is nothing stopping you from joining up beforehand. Tintagel is truly a magical place to visit and even if you can’t make this date you should try and pay a visit as soon as you possibly can.
