Cupcakes everywhere will be thrilled to hear of a new festival coming to Westpoint over the last weekend in March 2014 ‐ The Big Cake Show. Advertising itself as the Biggest Cake and Baking Show Ever in the Southwest, this event is the perfect recipe for anyone keen on baking.
With the current rise in popularity in cupcakes, baking is clearly a popular pastime for many. The Big Cake Show takes place over three days, starting the last Friday in March.
The inception of the Big Cake Show
The Big Cake Show was the dream of two best friends, Mel and Kim, who share a passion for home grown food and no-nonsense baking. It was their idea to bring everything bake-orientated under one roof so that other home bakers could learn, purchase and be inspired by the latest baking trends.
They attended school together in Exeter and chose different careers before running a successful Events Management Company together. The Big Cake Show is just one of many of their successes in the Southwest.
Stars of The Big Cake Show
The event includes a number of invited show stars and industry professionals. Many of the celebrity presenters taking part in the Big Cake Show will be familiar faces from TV shows and recipe books. Mary Berry, known affectionately as the Queen of Baking, has been a leader in the field since the 1960s. Paul Hollywood often appears on TV as a judge for the popular TV series The Great British Bake Off while Phil Vickery is better known as the resident chef on “This Morning” and his own series “Phil Vickery's Pudding Club”.
Along with Edd Kimber, the winner of the first BBC show The Great British Bake Off, Mich Turner and Stacie Stewart are some of the many stars likely to be found gracing this event over the three days.
What to expect at The Big Cake Show
Part of the show will be given over to ingredients of all kinds which are the foundation of any good baking project. Stands will feature a host of stunning ingredients to inspire bakers to produce some new and outstanding cakes.
Visitors can pre-book to attend demonstrations and inspirational talks to bring themselves right up to date with the latest trends in baking. Professional bakers will also be creating new treats on the main stage, so get ready to learn from their tips and techniques.
There will also be some exciting live bake offs which will be fun to watch and learn from. Contestants will compete against one another and the clock to produce some delicious sweet creations. Demonstration theatres will have a lively schedule of events and interactive demonstrations.
Whether you are a nervous novice, a local chef or an industry professional you will find something to suit your needs and skills. You may even want to enter the Great British Bake Off competition yourself.
If all this food makes you hungry, you can sit down to a cuppa and cake, or perhaps something a little more substantial as part of the show.
Kids are not ignored and they can enjoy getting messy (and perhaps help to lick the spoon afterwards) in the kid's kitchen.
The newest cookbooks will be on sale with top authors attending book signings and answering questions. Perhaps shaking their hand will rub off some of their light baking touches for your future success!
Have you been inspired by the latest TV programs featuring baking? Perhaps you bake cakes professionally or have a career in cooking. We'd love to hear your baking tips or comments on the show if you plan to attend.
