Brixham is perhaps the least commercialised of the resorts that make up popular Torbay. The sizeable marina is home to pleasure boats and colourful fishing boats which can be seen unloading crabs, lobster and monk fish. Charming white-washed cottages and family-run businesses line the streets of this delightful harbour town. Fascinating attractions such as the Hole in the Wall Pub and the 17th century Coffin House on King Street are what makes Brixham so uniquely appealing.
Anyone with an interest in maritime history will find the National Coastguard Museum at Brixham totally riveting. In pride of place on the seafront is the replica of Drake's Golden Hind, emphasising the town's links with this heroic explorer. A walk past the harbour brings you to Berry Head Country Park which has great sea views, the smallest lighthouse in England and the remains of a huge Napoleonic Fort.
The scenic coast around Brixham is a paradise for walkers and bird watchers with many seabirds nesting on the crumbling cliffs. St Mary's Bay with its large sandy beach and swimming pool is ideal for families to swim, play and sunbathe. Dartmouth Castle, the Steam Railway and the Brixham Heritage Museum offer great days out in the area. Those looking for a relaxing holiday in an old-fashioned seaside town with plenty of modern amenities will find that Brixham holiday rentals are the perfect choice.
