If you’re looking for truly memorable accommodation, then Lizard Lighthouse is it. The clifftop location on the edge of the Lizard Peninsula is remarkable enough, but the chance to stay in a working lighthouse makes it extra special. This stunning accommodation complex is a dream come true for hikers, nature and history lovers, wildlife spotters and anyone looking for an unforgettable coastal retreat.
Lizard Lighthouse was built in the 17th century and is still a fully working lighthouse, but the six former lighthouse keepers’ cottages have now been converted into holiday accommodation. The adjacent houses have been tastefully refurbished and beautifully decorated to offer a comfortable stay with all the necessary facilities while retaining the property’s historic character. Choose from one to four bedrooms, some baby-friendly, some suitable for older children, and some accepting one or two dogs.
Each cottage has stunning sea views, enclosed outside space and allocated parking, but each has its own character, quirks and layout. For example, Godrevy Cottage is a one-bedroom with two bathrooms – ideal for couples wanting their own privacy. And Wolf Rock contains access to the unused West Tower. Guests can climb a spiral staircase to the observation room to enjoy spectacular panoramic views.
This accommodation is remote and has no WiFi and little phone signal. Landline phones are provided in each cottage, but other than that, this is your chance for a proper retreat from the real world.
Lizard Lighthouse is on the southernmost tip of mainland Britain. It is a dramatic spot offering breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and the chance to see diverse flora and fauna, including unique wildflowers, marine life and seabird colonies. It’s a hikers’ paradise, with the South West Coastal Path running past the door and leading to stunning beaches and charming fishing villages. Lizard Village is just over a kilometre away, offering shops, restaurants and a traditional pub, while the biggest town on the peninsula, Helston, is a 30-minute drive. Some of Cornwall’s highlights, such as St. Michael’s Mount, St. Ives, Mousehole, and Penzance, make excellent day trips.
