Holiday cottages & apartments around Bodmin & country

26 properties found

Those who are looking for a holiday cottage in Cornwall that is not beside the sea will find Bodmin has a great deal to offer. Any visitor should start their visit at the Tourist Information Centre in the impressive 19th century Shire Hall. Located on Mount Folly, the hall includes the Town Museum and the Courtroom Experience, surely the best attraction in Bodmin. It allows visitors to take part in a reconstructed murder trial in the year 1844 and then vote "guilty" or "not guilty". A trip to the cramped cells to hear the sad stories of past inmates is sure to provide a memorable lesson for delinquent offspring!

For more history visit Bodmin Gaol, explore the museum and learn about the final hanging that took place here in 1909. After a bite of lunch in the restaurant, why not hire bicycles and explore the local area? The Camel Trail runs through the town and offers a scenic route on the former railway track to Wadebridge through beautiful countryside.

Still on a railway theme, the Bodmin and Wenford Railway offers steam train rides to Boscarne Junction. Walks on Bodmin Moor may offer an encounter with the Beast of Bodmin and many visitors take the challenge to climb Brown Willy, the highest point on Bodmin Moor. Siblyback Lake has sailing and watersports and the nearby estate at Lanhydrock, an excellent house and gardens, has an 18-hole golf course.

Other highlights include the Jamaica Inn with a museum to novelist Daphne du Maurier, St Neot's Church and the Carnglaze Slate Caverns which often hosts concerts underground in the hand-carved cavern.
