Sail down to Armada Way for Plymouth Christmas Market

By December 1st, Plymouth’s Christmas Market has already been in full swing for a week or so, and there are only 24 shopping days left to Christmas! Enjoy the festive atmosphere, sparkling fairy lights and carol singing as you trawl the colourful stalls.

You’ll find homemade pickles and sweets, crafts, decorations and some tasty seasonal foods to sample when you visit Plymouth’s Christmas Market on Armada Way.

Totnes Christmas Night Market: A Very Alternative Christmas!

Totnes Christmas Night Market is THE place to be on either the 3rd, 10th or 17th December 2013. Starting at 3.30pm and running throughout the evening, these Tuesday night markets are about as “alternative” as the town itself.

Read what to expect at this lively night market, combining local producers and eclectic traders with offbeat music and entertainment. It can only happen in Totnes!

Tree decorating inspiration at the Crediton Christmas Tree Festival

Crediton Christmas Tree Festival starts on Thursday 5th December 2013 and lights up Crediton Parish Church for four days. Thousands of visitors enjoy the spectacle of seeing over 70 decorated Christmas trees donated by local businesses and organizations.

It’s free to attend, but the refreshments, guided tours of the church and concert help raise thousands of pounds for church funds.

Dunster by Candlelight is well worth crossing the border

One of the Westcountry’s most talked about events is Dunster by Candlelight which takes place on the evenings of Friday 6th and Saturday 7th December 2013. Situated just over the border in Somerset, this mediaeval village turns back the clock. The delightful shops and streets are lit up by candles and lanterns as part of the Lamplighting Procession.

With the floodlit castle perched high above the thatched roofs and plenty of seasonal entertainment, it’s a wonderful place to start your Christmas festivities.

Chagford’s Exclusive Wonderworks Arts and Crafts Christmas Fair

If you appreciate fine arts, handmade furnishings and bespoke fashion, the Wonderworks Arts and Crafts Christmas Fair is “designed” for you. Forget homemade crafts; this fair selects only the very best designers and artisans to showcase and sell their pottery, furniture, home furnishings and clothing on 7th and 8th December 2013.

It’s a great opportunity to meet highly regarded artists, splurge on a special gift for a loved one, or pick up a valuable piece of glass or potteryto add to your collection.

Showjumping and stalls at Exeter’s Westcountry Christmas Equine Fair

Horse lovers will have a fantastic time at the Westcountry Christmas Equine Fair on 7th and 8th December 2013. Held at the massive Westpoint Arena near Exeter, this Horse Show includes events by Olympic riders and professional dressage eventers as well as Pony Club competitions.

Enjoy the demonstrations, learn some useful tips and browse the stalls for new rugs and tack as part of your day at the Westcountry Christmas Equine Fair.

Get ready to celebrate with Christmas Magic in Clovelly

You should definitely keep the 8th December 2013 free and pop down to the preserved fishing village of Clovelly for some Christmas Magic in Clovelly. This is one of the few events that offers free admission after 3pm to this beautiful private village.

Watch the procession and join in carol singing on the harbour, led by the harmonious Torridge Male Voice Choir.

Head to the Exmouth Craft Fair for some unusual Christmas shopping

Down on Devon’s south coast, Exmouth Craft Fair takes place on Sunday 8th December 2013. The stalls fill the Exmouth Pavilion, which is right on the Esplanade. It’s a great opportunity to combine some leisurely Christmas shopping with a tasty Sunday lunch and a stroll along the seafront.

Winter Wonderland at the Babbacombe Model Village

Take time off to visit Babbacombe Model Village from 14th December 2013 to January 5th and enjoy the fairylights and snowscapes of Winter Wonderland Snow Spectacular. Although it appeals to children of all ages, apparently over two thirds of the visitors to Winter Wonderland are adults without children.

There’s a mini pantomime, tobogganing, and a scary 4D Sleigh Ride within the all-inclusive admission. We also suggest a great place to warm up by a roaring log fire after your visit!

Boxing Day Swims in Devon: don’t forget the goose fat!

Thousands of spectators watch hundreds of lunatics brave the chilly sea waters as part of the traditional Boxing Day Swim in Devon. Checkout the nearest location where you can watch, or perhaps be tempted to dive in, and help raise buckets of cash for local charities.
