Enjoy rural village life at Wassail Cottage, Yalberton a converted Grade II listed cider barn with modern interiors and preserved stone features. "Wassail" was a mediaeval drink of mulled ale and means "good health". The oak-floored living room has open living space and a door to the private courtyard garden. There's a well-appointed dining kitchen area with dishwasher. Upstairs, three bedrooms (a double ensuite, twin and single) overlook the orchard which once provided apples for cider. It's now home to free range hens, geese and pheasants.
The covered patio provides a peaceful haven for reading and chatting over a glass of lip-smacking local cider. The quiet ambience is enhanced by sounds from the babbling brook nearby.
Wassail Cottage is 1½ miles from the lovely village of Stoke Gabriel which has a local shop, two pubs and a quay for crabbing. The nearest town is Totnes with its arch over the High Street and motte-and-bailey castle. It's a great place for festivals and the weekly markets. Torbay beaches and attractions are 15 minutes away, including Paignton Zoo and the Living Coasts attraction. The nearby Dart Valley offers scenic walks, river cruises, a steam railway from historic Dartmouth and the National Trust-owned home of Agatha Christie, Greenway.
