July Cottage, West Down, is a charming and thoughtfully designed holiday home. Enter via the porch to find yourself in an open-plan ground floor, beautifully decorated with neutral colours, painted beams and a few hints of seaside flair. Make yourself at home in the comfortable living with its oak floorboards and wood-burning fire, or whip up something tasty in the compact but fully equipped kitchen complete with a dining area. Head upstairs to find a family bathroom, a minimalist double bedroom with a beamed ceiling and a kids’ room with quirkily arranged bunk beds.
Relax on the terrace with a coffee, or head into the garden to soak up some sun in the cushion-filled rowing boat while children and dogs play on the grass.
July Cottage is in the heart of West Down, close to a pub and village shops and a 15-minute drive from several larger towns. Visit Victorian Ilfracombe (7 km) to view its famous artworks and Tunnels Beaches, or head to pretty Croyde to soak up the relaxed surfy vibes. Many of Devon’s most beautiful beaches are nearby, including surfer favourites Woolamcombe (7.5 km), Putsborough, Croyde and Saunton Sands (10 km), home to some of the largest sand dunes in the UK. Or you can head to Exmoor National Park to hike, cycle, and climb through breathtaking scenery.
