Exmoor National Park is the open moorland area which extends across North Devon from Combe Martin to Minehead in Somerset and southwards to Dulverton. It takes its name from the River Exe and was once a royal hunting ground. Exmoor covers just 692km² (267 sq miles) and has a population of around 10,500 people.

Exmoor is popular with walkers, horse riders, mountain bikers, anglers and nature lovers enjoying a peaceful holiday in one of the holiday cottages in the Exmoor area. The Coleridge Way follows walks from Porlock first taken by poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The Two Moors Way runs through both Dartmoor and Exmoor while the 630-mile long South West Coast Path starts at Minehead and offers superb views of the Bristol Channel as it skirts Exmoor.

This remote and scenic area is scattered with small villages and hamlets which are a delight to come upon unexpectedly. Steep wooded valleys, ancient farms and lush river valleys offer a variety of landscapes that are never boring. The unspoilt heathland is home to free-roaming Exmoor ponies, sheep, rare butterflies and birds of prey. The coastal heath is a Site of Special Scientific Interest while the coast attracts visitors to the pretty towns of Minehead, Porlock, Lynmouth and Lynton.
