Chattan Forge is in Abbey Gate, a rural hamlet near Axminster which gave its name to high quality carpets. There are beautiful walks from Chattan Forge in the nearby East Devon AONB. Axminster has local shops, old coaching inn, a 17th century church and a weekly market. Gourmets will want to book a table at Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage Canteen and Deli. The coastal thatched fishing villages of Beer (eight miles) and Seaton (six miles) are delightful places to visit and the Jurassic Coast with its unique geology and fossils is a World Heritage Site.
