Pretty Port Isaac (home of TV’s Doc Martin) is six miles away along with Port Gaverne’s sandy beach and the cliff-lined Trebarwith Strand. Tintagel, legendary birthplace of King Arthur, provides an interesting day out with its castle ruins, footbridge and National Trust owned Old Post Office. It’s a popular spot for clifftop walks and birdwatching. Surfers can head to Polzeath (nine miles away) or take the boat across the Camel Estuary from Rock to Padstow, famous for its fish restaurants.
