Merlin’s Retreat is a short walk from the centre of Tintagel, a pretty village full of myths and legends but also pubs, shops and traditional grocers. Explore the English Heritage site of Tintagel Castle, said to be the home of King Arthur, and Merlin’s cave where the great wizard himself once (allegedly) lived. Follow the South West Coastal Path to explore the area’s rugged cliffs and coves, and be sure to stop at sandy Benoath and Bossiney Coves (2 km). Walk inland to explore the spectacular St Nectan’s Waterfall (3km) or take a day trip to explore the pretty coastal town Port Issac (15 km), visit sophisticated Rock (20 km), or foodie favourite Padstow (20 km).
