Overlooking the scenic River Dart, Rosemary Cottage is in the pretty South Hams village of Dittisham. It's a 16th century Grade II listed building surrounded by a large garden and orchard looking down on superb Dart River views. Fragrant rosemary spills over the stone wall in summer. Low ceilings with white painted beams complement the modern eat-in kitchen with electric Aga and the comfortable sitting room with woodburner. Life spills out through French doors onto the terrace and garden with Dart Valley views. Climb the well-trod stairs to find two king-size bedrooms, a single room and a family bathroom.
Spend a couple of hours walking the vines and learning about wine-making on a tour of Sharpham Vineyard. You won't be able to resist taking home some of their famous cheese and wine!
Dittisham is one of Devon's most attractive villages with its pretty pastel cottages lining the riverfront. Hire a boat and explore the river or try paddleboarding and kayaking. Kids will spend hours crabbing off the quay. The village is known for its gastropubs including the historic Ferry Boat Inn and the Anchorstone Cafe serving mouthwatering seafood. The Red Lion doubles up as the local shop and coffee house. Take the ferry to Agatha Christie's home, Greenway, or spend the day exploring historic Dartmputh shops, ice cream parlours and naval college. Ride the restored steam train along the Dart Valley from Kingswear to Paignton for the day.
