Falmouth is surprisingly one of the deepest natural harbours in the world and has a longstanding maritime history. Pendennis Castle and St Mawes Castle were both built to defend the port in the time of Henry VIII and are interesting places to walk to. Nowadays Falmouth is a buzzing holiday resort and fishing port, ideal for those looking for holiday cottages close to the National Maritime Museum.

Falmouth is a great centre with a good range of attractive shops and cafes, ferry services to St Mawes and the interesting RNLI Lifeboat Station by the marina which is often open to visitors. The lovely beaches are perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Close to Swanpool Beach is the boating lake, while life-size boats sail from the Prince of Wales Pier up the River Fal to Truro.

One of the local attractions worth exploring is the Church of King Charles the Martyr with its mediaeval Cornish windows. Climb the 111 steps of Jacob's Ladder to look down on the town. The Falmouth Art Gallery has free admission, the Arts Centre is a theatre and film venue and the Princess Pavilion hosts a lively season of summer shows.
